Why be SANE

This blog is for anyone who is interested in connecting with the community of self-taught Canadian artists.  There's a lot of us out there, and it's time to gather in one place.  So much of the art world is run by snobs - you can join them if you have a degree, money, and nothing else to do.

That's not what we're about.


This blog is meant to support YOU, the self-taught artist.  This might be you if:

• you don't have an art degree - you've thought about getting one, but some uncontrollable circumstance is standing in your way (time, money, the Fates...). 
• you have taken some classes - either credited or not - but you still haven't got an art degree.
• you have a degree (or maybe more than one) in a non-art type field you enjoy (or don't enjoy) and you don't make most of your money through your artwork.
• you are a homemaker - squeezing in your art time between wiping noses and doing laundry
• you are retired.
• you have no degree - you work at a Joe job you wish you could quit... or maybe you have more than one of those and love them all.
• you pour over art books from the library until your eyes are bloodshot and there are only 3 hours left until you have to get up for your full time job. 
• you lay down to sleep and wake up with more ideas than when you went to bed - definitely more ideas than you have time for.
• you buy supplies before you know what they are for, slap them together and manipulate them until the combination fills you with glee.  
• you create things and give them away, and secretly revel in the awe on the faces of your friends and family.  
• you dream of quitting your "day job" and creating your special something full time.
• you  own fewer and fewer clothes that don't have some of your favorite media on them.
• you spend all your discretionary funds on art supplies
• you rummage through thrift stores, go to garage sales or beg, borrow and steal from friends, family and neighbors - all in pursuit of things you can use in your art.
• you're consumed by your art so that everything you see, hear, taste, or touch inspires you

If any of that is you, then this blog is all for you!  You have the ganas.  Join the ranks and let's collaborate.  This blog is meant for:

• networking - leave your info, make a comment, connect with others like you
• info sharing - wanna get going in sharing your craft?  Don't know where to start?  I'll post anything I run across that I think will help you get started.
• technique swaps - know something cool?  Run across a book you can't live without?  Share the info!  Regardless of your medium, someone out there somewhere has a similar interest and wants to know what you know.  Share the wealth!
• pic sharing - have a pic of something you have created and are really proud of?  Let's post it!  Followers can email me pics of their work and I'll post it for you.  I'll link your photo to your site if you have one....
